Public Works Operator
Description
PRIMARY DUTY: Under supervision performs basic labor tasks in support of the installation, repair and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection facilities, streets, grounds keeping, equipment and infrastructure for the City of Palmer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION: Heavy work. Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be capable of performing in confined space and/or on uneven low traction surfaces.
THE CONDITIONS THE WORKER WILL BE SUBJECT TO IN THIS POSITION: The work is performed primarily within outside environmental conditions. Applicant is subject to environmental conditions common to this region. Activities occur primarily outside with temperatures that may be below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees. Duties may require exposure to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, and exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. Weekends are in rotation and on call emergency response as needed is mandatory.

Applicant will possess or obtain a Water Operator License and Wastewater Operator License within 12 months of hire or in a time frame determined by the Public Works Director. A class B CDL will be required within 6 months.
